We have received three grants over the course of the last four months. Each grant will be used to provide more activities and options in the Day Training programs.
https://www.ameren.com/illinois/communityAmeren gave us a $1,000 to be used for our cooking classes. We offer cooking classes 3x per week in our small kitchen. We are teaching the individuals to cook simple foods, understand nutritional content, and healthy choices. The money will be used to purchase food items.

The Community Foundation of Central Illinois also gave us $9,000 for our program "Learning to Serve".  The main goal of the EP!C Learning to Serve program is to assist adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities build life and vocational skills by training them on how to be an effective community volunteer and by providing opportunities to apply learned skills through volunteer service in the community.

Recently, Maria Shriver aired a special story about two lifelong friends who are getting married after 30 years of knowing each other. What makes them unique? They both have down syndrome. They do not let that define them. Instead they describe their love for each other, their jobs, their independence and how they face issues like any couple: who does what chores?

For more about their story, click here.

Both of their mothers talked about the struggles they've faced convincing the world that their children were capable. Can you relate? What advice might you have for young parents who are facing similar issues?
